At dawn on June 6, 1971, a group of Native Americans led by members of the American Indian Movement set up camp on top of Mount Rushmore to demand that the federal government honor the Treaty of Fort Laramie, which a century earlier had granted the Sioux rights to all land in South Dakota west of the Missouri River.  Click here to read the article ...
